My 2003 Ram has the snow plow prep option "AHD". I had a local dealer do a print out of all the options on the truck...2 1/2 half page list.

Anyway, what does the snow plow group include? The sheet does not give a specific breakdown of this option.

I'd assume a heavier front coil spring, maybe a heavier duty alternator, what else? It does list transfer case skid plate...part of this option package?

I see some guys installing a leveling kit on the front to run 315 tires. I look at my truck and could not see how a larger tire could rub as high as this thing sits. Do the snow plow prep trucks already sit higher due to the heavier springs in the front? Mine does not appear to have any rake down in the front...looks close to level to me.

Mainly wanted to know the specifics of what is part of the snow plow prep group.

snow plow prep gives you different front coils and a transfer skid plate. the heavier duty alternators are for gas engines.

there is alot of debate whether there are stiffer front spring or not

Seems like a block heater cord and a skid plate were the only things included

How about this? Lets compare coil spring codes between snow plow equiped and no equiped trucks.

ZELP - left front spring
ZTKP - right front coil spring
ZGRP - left rear leaf spring
ZVRP - right rear leaf spring

This seems to be one of the most accurate ways to compare what springs came on what trucks.

My truck has the snowplow prep option. I think its sets very close to level. There are a couple pics in my gallery where you can see it clearly. The snow plow coils have always been different in the 2nd gen trucks. I don't see why the 3rd gen trucks would be any different.

there is different front coils on the snow plow prep trucks. use the search function-the part numbers are out there. my truck did not come with the snow plow prep package, but i did buy the coils that come with the snow plow prep option from my local parts dept and installed them myself. i did alot of reading on this site and the other dodge ram site. after i digested everything, the conclusion i came too was. 1) different front coils 2) transfer skid plate -for the snow plow prep package. block heater cord has nothing to do with the snow plow prep package.

I have the snow plow prep group, and I didn't get the heater cord. So that isn't one of the options included. I'm pretty sure it is the springs and the skid plates, but who really knows. It was on the truck when I bought it, so I got it. I doubt I'll plow with this thing any time soon.

So, if I order the 3500 with the snow plow prep pkg. will I get the 160 amp alternator?? I know I get the 750 amp batt. and the transfer skid plate and tow hooks with other pkg's. Whats the $85 up charge for with the plow Pkg. ??
This is with the CTD.
Also is the wiring harness different with the 160 amp alternator ??

Actually i just went through this with my truck because it is a sport package diesel 2500........The only differences are the alternator, battery, and the transfer case skid plate....thats all...no different spring no different wiring

Go to the dodge website...build and price a truck and under options go to snow plow per group and click on it....it tell you what it includes
