Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
Most of the HO 4X4 SB 2500's I have been looking at have the snow plow option, does that make the ride harder up front? I can't test drive a non-slow plow SB.
With that option they give you slighthly stronger front springs and diff and tranny skid plates.
Getting close to buying..looks like next week

Re:Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
The Snow Plow Preg Group should not make the ride any harder. The reason is because all it is are these 3 thing : 750amp battery, 160amp alternator, and a front skid plate. I nor my dealer can figure out why there are not springs to support the additional weight since it is suppose to be the for a snow plow.

Re:Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
The snow plow group is a joke as it's merely a way for DC to charge more for something that isn't really there or should come with the truck standard. It's like those two buttons they sew on the bottom of shirts so if you lose one, you have a spare to sew in it's place. You know you're paying for the buttons, and you know you probably won't ever need them.
As for the ride, no difference as the suspension is the same as the model that doesn't have the SPPG added...just more money in DC's pocket. I've got it on mine as it came that way of the lot but would have preferred not to have it - and I live in Alaska. Hate to be a fella in Dallas that had to choke on a bogus option that's not really there and that he will never need nor use. :-

Okay, we've been through this soooo many times already. The springs ARE DIFFERENT in the SPPG. They are uprated by one number on the part numbers attached to each spring.
At any rate, The ride is pretty much the same.

Re:Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
That kind of jives with what one of the salesman has told me, they upgrade the springs a bit.
A nice way to make an extra $130 per truck as someone mentioned.
The only thing that still concerns me, in the camper info booklet that comes with the truck it states you can't put a camper on a truck with the snow plow option !! doesn't make sense at all. And guess why I'm buing this truck...to put a camper on it. ???

Re:Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
I called DCX and checked with my dealer and both after checking told me that the spring rates are the same with or without the SPPG.
About not being able to carry a camper with the 4X4 w/ SPPG, I don't think they should have put that on the inside front cover. The reason is because when I look through the guide, it seems certain trucks are not recommanded for a camper and they don't say whether it has or has not a plow package. I think it has more to do with center of gravity as 4x4 short beds with the cummins are pretty much excluded from being recommanded for a camper.

Re:Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
Your right on with the center of gravity being the problem with short beds and campers. Now, I know why the disclaimer in the manual, I should have thought about that...It has nothing to do with spring rates up front.
They should have stated "You can only use campers that are designed for short beds on trucks with 6' beds "
What they do is place the holding tanks and heavier items further up front on the campers to compensate for the shorter wheel base. You don't want too much weight to the rear of the rear axle.

Re:Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
the snow plow prep group adds nothing to the diesel except maybe a skid plate depending on what model u get. the diesel already has the heaviest suspension you can get. and the big batteries. there is no 160amp alt for the diesel so you dont really get anything except a window sticker that say you got a SPPG.

CONVERTEDDZLR,
I hate to differ with you but I spoke with the sales managers and service managers at Lithia Dodge, Anchorage Dodge and Kenai Chrysler - all dealers in southcentral Alaska - and they all confirmed that the SPPG on a diesel package does nothing but add a skid plate. The springs are the same on the diesel package. Now, if you were purchased a gasser then you would get upgraded springs but they all said the same thing - the diesels have larger springs that come standard. Perhaps them Canuks get better trucks than us Yankees, eh? Gotta be able to push more snow off those lakes for a quality, faster hockey game, eh!! ;D

Re:Snow Plow Group = Harder ride?
LMAO
I was just going by a quick comparison of truck springs that a few of us did back in the spring (no pun intended!) and it the truck without the SPPG had lighter ones (both were SO's and don't tell anyone but the one without the SPPG was mine :-X)
