Smoked Cab Lights

My truck came from the factory with the amber cab lights. I am wanting to switch to smoked lights. Some have told me that all i need is the new lenses and others have said i need a whole new cab light kit, just confused on what i actually need and where is the best place to get them?

Ditto, that's what I did. $10 at O'Rileys and some time in the drive way, this is what I got.

13MWZ........very sharp truck....I used that stuff on an 01 and when the lights were on you could see hairline cracks in it....this happen to yours?? How many coats did you spray on? Can you still see the tail lights and reverse lights well? I was thinking about getting the LED smoked lights all around but super expensive lol. Also, where did you get those headlights, I've seen them a few times before but can't find them...thanks!

Yeah, but my problem is I want...ALL the lights LED smoked, not a little here and there lol. Those tail lights are expensive, but was thinking if that spray doesn't leave cracks, I may do that and maybe change out the bulbs for the LEDs...maybe....cheaper for now.

yeah, its definitely up to you. Cheap isnt always the best route tho, speaking from personal experience. The smoke paint can sure enought buy you some time. What i would do is buy one thing at a time.

Cool

My Recons cracked and leaked within 6 months....

I have "smoked" my factory clearance lights , and taillights with PPG base/clear and they look better than the aftermarket ones and don`t leak ....so sometimes cheaper IS better

I have recons... the only problem I had with them were their bulbs, and I found a good source for those.

If you want to do all of them, I'd do the spray. If it is crap, get some lacquer thinner and you're out 15 bucks.

I've had mine since I first purchased the truck, no cracks leaks or fading sometimes it comes down to the ppl who installs them...if you know what I mean

the guy at the dealer stripped the oil drain plug on my 03 work truck, he said "well if these plugs weren't of such low quality this wouldn't happen" and I told him "yeah surely it didn't have anything to do with overtightening it"

Here is a little more reading for you if you decide to paint the cab lights yourself.

Here is my finished product and how it looks. Overall I am very happy I went ahead and painted my cablights instead of buying new ones.

I have the Recon LED cabs. The taillights ($120 shipped) and 3rd light ($40 shipped) are Ultimate Design LED, bought off ebay. They have been on the truck nearly 2 yrs, not a single burnt out led, no leaking, and they still look great. Only issue i had with the tails was fitment wasn't perfect, but it was acceptable. The Recons have the same fitment issues but are $300. I love the look of leds more IMO. No leaks or cracks, absolutely 0 issues since install.

...installed them myself with a screwdriver , not screwgun and they weren`t overtightened. I`m not the first one to have problems with them , but I will say mine were the first generation that weren`t leds , so maybe the new ones are better
