Smoke/steam out of Crankcase Breather Bottle
I've noticed for the past while that occassionally there is steam/fumes coming out of my crankcase breather hose (which is extendend back to the middle of the truck). Is this normal? What causes it?
If it's not normal, what could the problem be?
Thanks for any suggestions!

A little bit of gray smoke, very little is normal out of a breather. It may drip a litltle water condensation in cold weather. If your oil lever and consumption and fuel MPG is normal and no water in oil, or coolent in oil your probly normal. Unless this is a big change in the amount of smoke/vapor/steam comming out. Also as truck warms up, does it increase or decrese?
How long have you had the truck and what is the mileage?

I've had the truck since it was new. Currently, it has apx. 80k miles on it. The oil level is normal and I don't see anything suspicious in the coollant bottle. It tends to do it more when it is hot rather than cold. My fuel mileage is aroung 16 which is lower than I would expect for 50/50 city/highway driving. I also have slightly bigger tires that could be throwing that off.

A lot of heavy trucks will blow steam/vapor out of the blow by tube, which is normal. Even a small amount of oil is normal (I don't mean a constant drip, I mean like after awhile, half of the oil pan may have a oil coating on it). When you change oil in most engines all you can smell is new oil out of the blow by. A little bit of steam/vapor I would say is normal. My truck does the same and my underside has a coating of oil as well.
