Question smarty while towing

I have just recently bought a smarty for my truck. so far I have only put it on the 60hp setting with added timing. I tow a 20ft. cattle trailer that useally wieght 14,000lb.

I wanted to know if I can tow with the setting with added timing or should I go for the one without it?

Bob,

Do you see any problem towing on level 9, if you have gauges and keep the EGTs under a certain point? And what is that point? 1100? 1200? 1300? Thanks for your help!

Rusty, are you sure your tq converter is locking? It shouldn't be a problem. I have towed in 100+ degree temps and the temps don't get out of control.

I wouldn't even tow on level 1 without gauges. You will egt your egts too high on hills.

it locks but its mainly during low speed driving like around town and stop lights. when cruising down the highway at 60-90, it will hover right around 160 or so but in town she runs up to 190-210. i hate seeing that kinda of temp. i guess im just paranoid about tearing it up before i get it built

Dodgemaniac, I have a Smarty in my '05 Ram and I've had it turned up as far as 5 without any issues empty. The highest temps I saw were on setting 3 going up a hill and it was only around 800, but then again it's empty so I'm sure with a loaded cattle trailer it may climb a little more. Where are you from in Western PA as I'm near New Castle.
