Smarty questions

I just recently decided to get a smarty for my truck. My question is how high can I run it without gauges.

My plan is to get a Commander/Quad Race later down the line to stack them and have guages.

Is this safe to do?

Any time you add performance products the FIRST thing you need is gauges. If you do not watch your EGT's you can really hurt something.

As far as levels, you might run as high as 5, but on your stock trans you will start slipping your clutch. You are going to need to look into a Southbeend or equal clutch.

You need gauges when adding any fuel over stock. Once you get gauges then a Smarty, you will need a clutch to handle anything above SW7. I would drop fuel pressure below 5psi with the Smarty on SW3, so a fuel system will be required also.

I can get 1350 pre turbo on the 30hp setting empty doing a full throttle run.
Stock turbo, injectors- AFE intake and flow through muffler.

Pulling a 4,000# trailer, I can hit 1400 at will.

Bottom line- get gauges first.

yes some form of gauges, first. the quad race is a good starting point for you. you wont need to upgrade the clutch, and can probably get away with the factory lift pump for awhile with the race. I ran mine for 20K miles before adding anything else.

Well I know I am going against the flow here but, With my Smarty I am seeing lower EGTs than stock. All a EGT Gauge will tell you is that is was less than before. So if you are willing to run stock without gauges I don't think running with a Smarty on a low level would be any more of an issue (other than the fact the if it is stock and it nukes itself it is a warrenty issue)

It's the original software that came with it. I have to get a cable to download the newest release.

Was your stock clutch able to hold up on the highest setting?

My truck stays on Smarty level #1, it adds just enough duration, that when I really want to haul @#$ I just kick in the Quad Race, and I'm flyin'. I would buy the Smarty and keep it below #3 not towing, #1 if you tow.
