Quick question

Hey guys i just have a quick question. I just got my Smarty in last week and i updated it yesterday off of Mads website. I did the stock injectors with aftermarket turbo so i could get boost fooling since this is what i had people tell me to do. It runs awesome loving every minute of it! I looked at the boost gauge today when i got on it and it hit around 42 pounds. I have it on SW7 with my puck still hooked up. I still have stock turbo and what not but i remember seeing some posts that with stock turbo and what not you shouldnt go over 40 pounds or so of boost. Just curious as to what this will do to my truck? More than likely i will turn it down if it will in the long run really hurt something but its one of those things that i wouldnt mind if it did cause wouldnt mind a new tranny or turbo. Any help would be great!

Thanks, Randall

If you don't keep it at 42psi it will be just fine. Holding that psi will eventually cause you trouble, whether it be 100,000 miles down the road or 10,000.

First at that psi you are out of the efficiency range of the turbo and you are blowing hot air and not gaining anything from the extra psi. Second, that causes a bit too much drive pressure (bad for headgaskets) that will overspeed the turbo and cause early thrust bearing failure if you do this too often. Basically it is possible over time that you may grenade the turbo. Not necessarily will, but possible.

You said you have a power puck? If so, what setting? If you are running 90hp setting, just turn down to 60. That will be enough reduction to save the turbo. If you are running 60 setting already, consider dropping smarty down to SW5 or turning puck off. Just until you can get a better turbo or tune the wastegate to open at 40psi.
