Smile Smarty Question?

Well after several months of reading this forum and going back and forth between the XZT & Smarty I decided to call Larry and .................................................. ...................................ordered the Smarty!!! Thanks Larry it was nice talking with you. This is my first performance modification and have a question. I plan on ordering gauges tomorrow and want to know if I don't tow anything or stand on it to hard will I be Ok to play with the Smarty on SW#3 without guages for a couple of days.
Thanks,
Steve

I would not run any perfomance module or programmer at all without gauges. I have seen my truck STOCK exceed 1400* when towing heavy up a grade. So with a hot rod programmer, you'll be living on borrowed time. I would wait.

It's nice to have a baseline to work from too. I mean, you will want to know what your readings are in different situations STOCK, this way you can tell what is going on with the Smarty loaded (or any other mods for that matter).

Good luck.

I ran around 30k plus modded miles without gauges. Even went to the track a couple times and ran without gauges. I ran an Edge EZ first, level 3 all the time, towing or not went just fine. Ran the BDDL on the 90hp setting for probably 20k of those miles, some towing hard and never looked back. Now i have gauges and found out that my bullydog runs no hotter than stock on the performance setting. (ok maybe 50 degrees at the most)

I have run my smarty on #7 since I got it probably around 5000 miles ago and everything is fine, but I don't tow anything and I don't totally abuse it. Well I did beat on it pretty good tonight since I just got my Goerend tranny today so I had to have some fun. Some day I will get gauges, but if you are smart about it and don't tow heavy and use your brains you will be OK.

Thanks everyone. I should have gotten the gauges a couple of weeks ago . If the Smarty gets here Friday the temptation might be more than I can stand! We'll See.
Thanks,
Steve
