smarty jr mpgs!

just got my smarty jr the other day (thanks brian @ diesel power products) and got it installed yesterday. Man does the smarty wake the truck up! The question I have is on my mileage computer my average mpgs have held right around 16.5 before and have shot up to 19.6 since I put the smarty jr on. the 16.5 was varified on a trip to utah last year, is the 19.6 a true reading or is it possible the smarty can mess with the trip computer. I fill out of a bulk tank with no gallon meter so have no baseline to work with. guess i could fill up in town but when the fuel is supplied with my job, I'd rather not. If these numbers are correct, how awesome is that? 100 extra ponies and +3 mpgs, better throttle response.....almost too good to be true! any suggestions on an air intake system that will stand up to EXTREMELY dusty conditions?

The display is not correct.. You can and should get better mpg if you can stop using that throttle response every time you start from a stop.
Best of luck..

leave the intake side of the turbo alone if anything just add a psm kit this will actually help keep the filter cleaner. your truck has a in cylinder egr scheme to meet epa emissions it gets complicated to explain how it all works but you can get 40% improvement by changing two items the smarty jr on default tow setting to get the timing corrected change cam to a pdr to correct the exhaust valve timing and change the nozzles to ddp 50 hp to shorten and effectively move the pulses timing up. the turbo, cat and muffler was purposely designed to give the back pressure needed to make this meet the required gas as load increases. by going to a 5" turbo back and a good Donaldson or nelson muffler you can gain a little more mpg

Before I installed the Smarty Jr, my overhead read +0.5mpg than hand calculated. It read 17.5'ish mpg on a steady highway cruise, 75-80mph.

After I installed it, +0.5mpg. Didn't change anything as far as the overhead went. Now it reads 19.5'ish on the same trip.
