I've played with it a bit.... it's going to take a while to tweak everything...

some early reports from other forums are very favorable for some of the driveablility issues some had had.

Less smoke, and a lower idle are a few of the things I've noticed.

As I’m sitting here at work, I thought to myself, "Self, what do you think of the new Smarty REVO?" And myself said, "well, let me tell you."

Before going any further, let me preface everything I’m about to say with this: “You are going to LOVE what’s missing in the new REVO software.”

Odd statement? Well, kind of. Read on:

Loaded up the new software last night. Drove home, in the dark, on a dirt road, late at night. Perfect place to check the new throttle response and turbo spool!! I can tell you this: with everything set on the highest level, and CaTCHER level 9 loaded, the go-pedal is a little touchy. Not un-drivable. Not scary. But you know when you push the loud pedal because it reacts. RIGHT NOW. It doesn't buck. It doesn't kick. You just know that if you press down, you are going to move.

On pavement, you notice much of the same. However, you begin to notice something a little different over previous Smarty version. The throttle response is the same. The low end torque is the same (seat of pants the same). But, there is something MISSING. The smoke! The turbo seems to spool exactly the same, and I honestly cannot tell a difference in response. But, there are no long plumes of black smoke billowing if you get into the throttle a wee bit more then needed. Instead, you have crisp, firm, CLEAN response.

You also notice another thing MISSING on the new Smarty. Get out on the highway. Set the cruise control. What’s missing? The SURGE! Remembering I have an 01 (vacuum controlled cruise), I cannot believe what Marco and Bob have done to get rid of that cruise control surge! I made it a mission to try and get the truck to surge on cruise. I ran it up about 10mph past my desired speed, then let it fall back to speed without giving it any fuel. As it was falling, I hit the cruise control (usually a dead set way to get the thing surging and searching for the right MPH). It went up once, fell back down, and went straight to the speed. Obviously, I tried to be hypersensitive to the cruise as I was trying to give it a good once over. Even on hills, there is almost 0 surge. I noticed it do it once, and only once, before it settled back down. Marco and Bob: BRAVO!

About the different options: Well, I've got to be honest. I the only thing I have not had on the highest setting was the timing (originally). I now have all options; timing, duration, torque management, etc at "set phasers to kill." I've also only had the truck at level 9. Needless to say, I'm shooting for what I would think would be the most "problematic," most "hard to drive," most "surge prone" setting I can get. And it just will not misbehave!!

I'd be the first to chalk this up to "initial experience, time will tell." Regardless of whether this is initial excitement or not, I'm 100% CERTAIN this version is the best software I have tried (from the original CaTCHER ECM, to the last update, to the new REVO.) If you own a Smarty, and even if you THINK you are happy with it, it is time to try this update. You will not be disappointed.

I tinkered with it a little today and definetly like it. It will take some time to get it all tuned in. I dont run timing since I have the juice w/att but I set duration on 5 then 3 and like both. I need to get back out to the track this week and see if it changes much. I do like the fact you can adjust the Tq management.

I don't have any surge either. Oh yea I don't have cruise.
I wish I did only being able to use about 1/4" of throttle gets old trying to maintain one steady speed for long distances.
I am going to try to try the new program out tommorow I will post up what I think.

I have #9 loaded.

TQ mgmt and timing both at default with duration at 5.

My smoke barfing is GONE. Don't get me wrong, I still get some smoke, but I can at least see through it.

The off idle snap billowing clouds are gone also.

Pulls real nice and the EGT's seem down a bit also....

I know that i will have the timing and tq mgmt on the highest of settings because i run high rpms with a redline and need all the timing i can get. i guess i will play with it tonight.

Could somebody explain to me the new options that are available with the Smarty Beta. I got the thing loaded onto my Smarty (thank you Bob Wagner, by the way for the quick reply) and have changed a couple of the options but have not done much of a test drive yet.

The timing is pretty self explanatory to me, and i'm sure i have a good idea what the duration is, but dont know about the torque management. Could somebody just break it all down so i have an idea what i am adjusting. Also I have an Edge Juice/Attitude, so maybe some suggestions on a combination to work the best with it would be nice.

I know this is all kinda new to all of us, but some of you understand this better than me. I read the instructions on MADS website for the 3rd gen Smarty Revo and it says that some of the higher numbers on the Timing, duration, etc.. options actually reduce timing and duration compared to the lower #'s.

Thanks for the help.
