Small electric pump that saved my rear
Took our yearly trip down to cali to run the rubicon trail. On the way down (1500 mile round trip) I noticed the truck loosing power. I run veg/bio and have a fram G2, racor 500 and a stock filter. The power loss is normally the fram clogging. I carry plenty of spares and we were close to stopping for the night so I just switched it out in the morning.
We hit the freeway in the morning and no power at all. We stopped and I could see alot of air in the fuel and had thought a line had gone bad. Limped it to the next exit and started trying to figure where the leak was. I have rubber lines from the LP that feeds my filters, I pulled the line rite after the LP and there was almost no flow. At WOT there was none.
So I'm thinking well crap bad LP, funny I know I just changed it about a year and a half ago. Lucky there was a orileys a block away. They couldnt get a LP till monday and it was saturday. So I asked if they had a 12v that had about 7psi output. Guy says well we have a 12v diesel that runs about that. Sure enough they had a 12v 4-7psi diesel pump...and it was $20 less than a new LP.
I plumed and wired it in and it solved the issue. The truck ran fine and didnt notice any diffrence. I'm buying another one to keep in the other truck, heres the pump http://www.jcwhitney.com/micro-elect.../p2031585.jcwx
Hope this saves someone elses butt.

A smart man keeps an electric-pump installed in a bypass line, such that all it takes is the flip of a switch to bring it into action.
He also has at least one fuel-pressure gauge just ahead of the injector-pump.
Ideal is to have a gauge on the outlet of each successive filter AFTER the lift-pump, thus you can pinpoint just where the pressure stopped.
I do not trust any electric pump as the main lift-pump, but they do have there advantages, such as pre-priming the fuel system and purging any air.
I have a valved quik-couple on mine such that I can couple on a hose and pump fuel from any of my three tanks into any receptacle, be it a Dixie-cup or a Tiger tank.
