Slave cylinder

I need to upgrade my hydraulics. I've noticed the clutch taking a long time to come back up and then yesterday I had it in gear with the clutch pressed in all the way and the truck started to take off on me.

So I know I need to do the hydraulic update based on simular experiences I've seen posted here. I called SBC and they were busy so I called EEP and they tell me just buy an oem slave from a 94-97, which I can get for $55 off ebay.

For those who haven't met me,...I don't have a clue what the master/slave cylinders are or do so you've got to break it down for me

So just a slave or do I need the master cylinder too?

Don't think you can buy them separately, they come as one unit.

it is all one peice take theh tree screwws out of the bottle thats holds it to the firewall undo the clip off your clutch peddle then go under th truck on the driver side of the tranny there is a black peice with three bolts undo them and slide it out

call Peter agian he sales the upgrade , Besure that what you getting is new on ebay and yes you need both master & slave . I put a new from the dealership on dads truck, and it was a sealed uint. it was around $220

Black is dead on on this issue. Go to DC and pick up the whole enchilada. I tried the slave only route and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get the system bled back out (no bleeder valve). The DC kit is a cinch to re-install and should take about 30 minutes or so.

I think Peter's at South Bend is about $200 for a heavy duty master slave.

Go with the complete unit, you dont have to deal with bleeding the system which is a PITA! Just bolt on and go

You problem is not the slave, but rather the master cylinder. It can be purchased separately from South Bend or from NAPA. Removing the whole assembly and bench bleeding it will remove any air. Easiest but most expensive way is buy the whole precharged hydralic assembly from Dodge.

Pre-98 hydralics are stronger for stiffer clutches, but must be converted over for post-98 trucks.

I'll call SBC back in the morning and see if they can overnight it to me. I drove the truck to work and it wouldn't come out of reverse. I shut the truck down, turned the key back on then pulled it out.

Thanks for the prompt advice when I really needed it
Is it a hard install?

i ordered south bends kit a month ago had the same problem, the master cylinder is huge compared to my stock one about twice the size. i believe it was $200. the only problem i had was the rubber seal on the back of sbc's was thinner than the stock one and would not seal. i found that the stock one was bigger only after i through it in the trash. i'm sure peter would have sent me a seal for it but i just used wire ties to hold it in place

yeah its the same as 97 model so if you can get it for cheaper why not

buy a complete assembly sealed!!!!! i just bought the slave and master cylinder separate at napa for $180 and saving the $20-40 isnt worth the head-ach... i think i just wasted $180 casue i still havent been able to get real good pressure ( i might be getting a seal assembly, if i cant get it tommarow its been 4 hours trying to get it) not worth it

I did. I went through some of sb's distributers and am having the hydraulics overnighted from Piers. Either I'm going to learn something this weekend or I'm going to pay someone to install this thing =\

installation is pretty easy the only real pain is getting the stupid retainer clip off of the clutch linkage. i has to cut it off with a paie of cutters good thing it comes with a new one. also make sure you save your old rubber oring you may need it the one sbc sent with there kit was too thin

One other thing I never see on here is that the unit from SBC has an adjustable master cylinder shaft. The eye that attaches to the clutch pedal can be adjusted because it is threaded onto the shaft. When I first installed mine it was too close to the floor, thus not allowing complete disengagement unless my foot was pressing through the floor. I called Peter and he said adjust it out a few turns and it worked perfect.....better than new in my opinion. I didn't have to cut the clip on mine, and it didn't come with a new one. It's not hard to remove in my opinion. I'd say allow yourself an hour if this is the first time to do this job. The unit from Peter at SBC has quick connects to connect the line from the slave to the master. Good Luck!
