I bought a set of 17" by 10" Weld Cheyenne 8's, currently they have 35's on them but they rub bad on the rocker panel when I turn left (truck's leveled). So I'm looking at sizing them down and a buddy wants the remaining rubber. I was looking at the Toyo Open Country M/T's as they seem to get good wear but I was wondering how small a tire I would be able to go without getting uneven wear. I doubt a 265 would fit a 10" but I was kinda curious. I don't want any bigger than a 33" diameter and a little smaller, like a 265 might be kinda nice to get my gear ratio back; better suiting the power range. I'd also like to keep it in the higher "E" load range tire. I appreciate any tips!

Well, 10" is 254mm. If you allow for some rim protection of at least 1" or better yet 2" you are at 280mm and 305mm respectively.

Now just pick the aspect ratio you want for the height.

I have to look at what's available, but a 305/70-17 would be 33.8" tall and 12" wide.

A 305/65-17 would measure 32.6" tall at the same width.

I would go with a 285 minimum. Tire widths are measured at the widest part of the tire, so both the tread width and the distances between beads can and usally will be much narrower.
