Late last fall I decided to build a new 20' goose neck trailer so I went to a local axle manufacturer and bought a couple of 7000# axles with 8000# springs. As the trailer will be used for equipment, cars and trucks I decided on an 82 inch X 20 foot bed between the wheels with removable fenders and using a set of 9 foot long ramps I already had. Things got behind over the winter (I've got a tractor apart in the shop) so I took the assembled axles, wheels and my ramps to a local trailer manufacturer for them to build for me.

After about a month I dropped by for a looksee. They invited me down to the shop floor to see my trailer, it sure looked good. It was still on the rotisserie so the axles and the goose neck were not on yet but the rest was done. One of the guys building it said I guess we'll make a sub-frame for the axles to mount on. Well alarm bells went off and I borrowed a tape to check the bed width.
78 inches, 4 inches too narrow. I didn't know what to say and thats what I said. I had just sold my 16 foot equipment/car trailer.

So they are remaking another trailer for me 82 inch deck this time around. I'm guessing you could get a good deal on that 20foot X 78 inch deck trailer. I don't know if they made a skinny goose or a bumper hitch out of it.

I think 82" is too narrow.

If I was have one built custom I would have it 8ft wide minimum.

82 will be tight for a fullsize truck and not dually can be loaded on it. I would have gone wider.

Are they making a new one? Or are they cutting this one apart and widening it? It would be in their interest to widen the first one.

They are building a complete new one, as its made from rectangular tubing it's simpler to do it that way and just sell the other completed trailer. 82 inch wide deck between the wheels is as wide as you can legally go as the trailer becomes 102 inches fender to fender. The only way to get a wider deck is to put the deck over the wheels and then it makes for a high center of gravity.

I'll take the high center of gravity and go 102" wide dove tail deck.

I did think about doing that but the thought of loading a piece of heavy farm equipment that high up and transporting any distance just made me think twice. Some of the roads up here are not as good as dirt tracks and I am sure that if the trailer flipped so would the truck. Either way the trailer is not finished yet so I am still waiting.

We've hauled everything from A to Z with this set up hay, grain bins, tractors, pipe, wood blah blah blah. It has worked for us. I understand your concerns and if everything fits and loads on your trailer your setup it is better.

My goose neck is a flat deck and it sit's pretty low to the ground and I'll be able to put whatever I want on it.It's a beast...
