Six Speed Auto Upgrade Possable??

I am just wondering how hard it would be to convert to either an allison or the new dodge six speed auto from a 48re. Any possibility the new 68re will work with early ECM'S?

Suncoast apparently offers an allison conversion using their stand alone trans controller....sure its only a matter of time until the 68re becomes avail....would think the same stand alone controller would work..

I think there is a bunch of us wondering and hoping. But for me it won't be the Allison. I'm hoping for the Aisin from the chassis/cab. Maybe the 68RE, but not if it's just a 48RE with two more gears.

The Allison conversion I read about required the Chevy tranfer case and moving the starter to the other side, etc. Sounded like a big project just to prove it could be done.

I'll have 200,000 miles on mine in two or three years and it will be time for a new tranny for sure. Maybe something will be worked out by then.

I have already talked to suncoast on the issue. Their allison coversion will be ready to do in about 2 months and it will be priced at a little over $10k. They guy I talked to said the 68RFE will NOT be an option to convert. He didn't say why, but simply said it wasn't going to be possible. He did say the Aisin would be a good candidate, but they were not going to look into the possibilities themselves for a while... I sensed they wanted to sell allisons.

Interesting, and hopeful. I wonder why the 68RE is not a possibility? I don't know much about it but that's surprizing. I want the Aisin anyway, so, cool. The next couple of years should be interesting as far as trannys go.

I asked the question about the transfer case and Suncoast said it would use the stock Dodge x-fer case. He didn't say anything about the starter-- and I didn't know to ask.

Heck for a 10K tranny, I'd use that and my truck (paided for) as a trade and buy a new truck with the six speed auto. I would imagine that there will be a lot of bugs to work out namely sofetware issues. But who knows.

whats the six speed behind an '07 ? I thought it was a 68re. Whatever it is, if it fits behind that motor, wouldn't it fit behind a 5.9?

Fitting is the first part. Then making it shift is the second part. They are computer controlled and who knows what will be involved. Maybe it will be easy, I don't know.

That's a good way to go, but I'm not willing to give up my '04 for an '07 or '08 with all that smog stuff just to get the tranny. The '04 is a great truck and the simplest of the 3rd gens. No cat, easy to bomb, good mileage, bla, bla, bla.
