Yup, thats what the local Chysler dealership told me this morning.

I had taken my truck in to have a recall notice check out on the battery box. Anyways, I was talking to the service writter about Cummins and their future w/ Dodge, but he proceeds to tell me I need to take better care of my "car". "Sir, when I drove your "car" it made a horrible rattleing noise, was extermely loud, and on acceleration, there was a massive "whistle type noise", you must take better care of your "car"...." After hearing this I was in shock!--I thought he was joking. Surely a service writter couldnt be telling me this!

So, I asking him if he was serious. "100% sir, Id recommed a full tune up including spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and possibly a fuel system flush to remove all the old "gas" and crap in the lines."

At this point, I was irate, couldnt believe me own ears. I told him I had no spark plugs no wires, no rotor, no cap, and I RUN DIESEL, because its a FREAKING CUMMINS! No gas, EVER! He assured me I had a gasoline engine.

I asked him if he had any idea of the workings of an oil burner, no idea. The fella had no clue of anything on a diesel, and he works as the service writter at Dodge dealership!

Anyways, I know the manager very well, so I spoke w/ him about this fella's performance and he assured me it was taken care of.

Really makes me glad that I know how to take care of my truck and basic maintence. Actually VERY GLAD!

Sounds like he could work at the dealership in my town. I love my truck but the service department at the dealership is terrible. I just cringe everytime I have to go in.

At first I thought you were kidding. Do you know yet if the manager took care of it? Just from the sound he was able to diagnose all of the above? Bet their csi rating is dropping. Jim

I think I would have told him to go ahead and put new ignition stuff on it. That would have been hilarious in the shop.

Yeah, I would have told him to go ahead also. Then if he writes you up a bill for that stuff you could leave saying "You will hear from my lawyer shortly for miss charging me." Then see what he says.

Not related but similar...

Took my wifes car in for no heat and intermittant fan.
I had just flushed the coolant and put a new thermostat in as well as oil and lube last week.

I get this call and they are telling me the coolant is acidic and needs to be flushed. When I told them I did it last week the reply was..."Ok, good."
Megs goes to pickup the car and on the work order there is now the following:

Winterize, oil and lube.

We signed a work order for the heater only.

The servce write says that by the way the car sounded, it needed this.
So, [LOL] I ask him what sound determines an oil change.
He looks at me and says..."Theres a definate hum to an engine with old oil"

I told him he is humming the wrong tune and we left.

I'd like to know what the manager did to "take care of it". I wouldn't fire the guy but he'd get a long lecture about talking out of his <edit> and embarassing the dealership. Then he'd go straight to training for a few weeks. He's probably said the same thing to a diesel Liberty owner too. "Ma'am your "car" is really messed up! I think the engine needs to be replaced".

If this happened to me I would have insisted he walk out to my truck and point out were the ignition system was. I would have been irate too. He would have got an education on diesels real quick.

my own little story...
My Bro in law took his truck into the dealer to get a new Fuel Cut off Sulionode. the truck came back... with the dash a ****** Up. the egt/boost gauges were not right. and the dash wouldent clip. the air bags were empty. and the air tank was also empty... the OVer drive was on and the Exhuast brake was on. and to top it off the replacced the molding around the steering collum with one out of an Auto truck so theres a big *** gap. u can see the Steering shaft from the passanger Seat.. they also broke the defroster switch... i Could have done the Job for less then half what they chargeda nd quite a bit faster... but he wanted the dealer to do it... Stupid.

the dodge 360 was the last hold out that i know of
