i have a 7" mitre cut stack str8 piped and have had it on the truck for a little over a year now should i cover it when it rains snows sleet ect. or will i be ok not going covering it.

I have also wondered about this too. I say throw a bucket on it just to be safe. Or we always used a big coffee can on tractors.

It would have to rain quite abit to cause damage, and in most cases the flexpipe will let it leak out. I stopped covering mine a year ago. However the moisture that gets in there will break some soot up when you start the truck and it will snow black snowflakes all over the bed. But I've found that it will do it wet or dry, the soot builds up pretty quick.

yeah when it rains i usually dont just be cause it would prolly be a couple of gallons water before it would hit the turbo. what about snow i mean we can get hit with 1inch to 2feet or so in 1 storm and im usually no where neer my truck sense i plow and if the storm is 12hrs long ill be out for 24 hours.

I put a rain cap on mine. It has worked fine. Lots of rain and no soot. It was on the high dollar side, but I like it.

Does that flapper make any clanking noise at idle?I like the function of it but if it made a bunch of noise it would drive me nuts!

yes they do clank but when ya get going you dont here it of course ,just when your stopped with truck running they clank.I got used to mine and dont even care.As far as snow and rain I never worry to much when this happens because when ya start the truck the water will start evaportating or blowing back out the stack.Snow turns into water or ice but melts off quick now if you live in the northern states that get a butt load of snow ...Yeah I would cover them dudes up.The only down fall when ya get the stuff in your pipes is when it melts or is in there you will have a dirty truck but hey its a truck.I have seen some guys drill hole in the bottom of their exhaust and that helps.

I'm all too familiar with the mess stacks can make!Ran them for 2 years on a white truck.I went back out the rear for the time being.Just got tired of the noise,especially when I went to the single 7".The single will be going back on once I go to twins.

Well mine does not rattle at idle, it takes a pretty hard bounce to hear it at all. My cap has a rubber type liner around the inside and rarely touches when it is running.

like i said when we get snow we get snow 2' in a little over 24hrs. The truck was worse but had to clean it abit to go down the road tho.

I'm thinking NO snow came out after this storm?? or it was capped??
other wise all the snow in the bed would be black like the pic I posted earlier in the thread.
