I have a 1994 single cab CTD and, due to an increase in my family i.e. twins and a very tight budget, I am looking into the possibility of turning my single cab with an 8 foot bed into a four door with a smaller bed. My motivation is money because I can't afford to pull a car payment for a new truck so the cheapest solution might be to do this. I am not sure if it is even possible but I have to find out so I can either consider it or eliminate it as a solution.

Has anyone heard of someone actually doing this and does anyone know if a shop in southern california that will do it. I am also just looking for a place to start my research because searches on the Internet have come up fruitless.

I live in portland and have seen two trucks that have that mod, one was a short bed and the other a long bed. both had four FULL doors. i looked like(if i remember right) they used chevy rear doors off a 4dr pickup. looked like mid 90's chevy doors.

sorry no place for you to start your reasearch, but i do know there is a place that makes those Tronkos(bronco/trucks) if they are still around they would probably do it for ya.

the cost of doing that could be WAY more than selling your current truck and buying a newer Q-cab though. you can get a nice 4X Q cab diesel up here for 15-17. i bet it will cost ya 5-7k for the mod, lots of custom work there, i could be way off base though.

what about that post that was floating around about the sleeper/half cab that goes in the bed of the truck and has a walk in door on it. thats in the bed. all dot aproved you take out the back window of the truck and that joins the two via rubber gasket I will post link as soon as I find it agin but just to get the ideas going

You can answer your own question very simply - hit yer local boneyard, find one you like, crawl under it and take a few pics of the cab\bed\frame relationship, incl mounting locations.

Find one like yours, do the same.

- OR -

Zip back to the house, do the same with yours, upload 'em to your
pc, and begin comparing.

sounds like a job for OVERHAULIN to me, but seriously it well cost you more than a new truck to have a shop do this for you. Shop time for a custom out there would be over $100 per hour and at 300 hours or so, and you would still have a 94 model truck with the same motor, miles, problems etc etc. and worth less than a 1/4 of what you have in it. Your best bet is to sell it and buy a used QC. That will be the cheapest, best and smartest option IMHO!

good grief! for a little more you can purchase a low mileage 98 with four doors and 12v. there's a 98 12v with low miles 19k on autotraders

I was thinking of sending my 12 Valve out there, 15K is cheaper than the 55K the dealer wants for a MEGA

I agree with everybody else, if you want to take the cheapest possible route, then converting your standard cab into a QC is not the way to go.

The only possible exception is if you happen to find a donor truck with all the parts that you need, then do most of the work yourself, but even then its going to cost you thousands of dollars to do the conversion. I did the same thing with a 2wd Ford that I converted to a 4wd, in the end it turned out to be a cool truck, but it sure wasn't cheap and it took me a long, long time to do.

If you just want a 2wd QC, then you should be able to find a good used one for around 10k, and if you sell your standard cab, then the difference should not be too bad.

By the way we're neighbors, I'm like 10 minutes from Claremont.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking it would be cheaper than $15 but ya'll are right. I think I will just have to start looking for a good used truck. My truck was handed down from my dad and if it would be cheap enough, I would keep it in the family. Oh well all good things must come to an end.

Keep that truck and go get you a $500-$1000 honda 4dr to run the kid's around with. Not to mention you could keep some miles off your truck and keep it in the family.
