You ever have something that you wished you never got rid of? Well, I had an '89 W250 that pretty much brought me into the world of the Cummins 5.9, and thanks to all you great people I pretty much replaced everything on it and turned it into a pretty nice ride. Then I decided to sell it to get a 2nd gen due to needing the space for my 3 boys. Well after learning all there is to learn about those, all that computer tuning stuff is losing its alure. So I am currenty truckless and at a bit of a crossroad. I just took a 2010 Ram HD 6.7 for a ride and let me tell you, it is one nice truck. It has plenty of room for the family, and a wonderfuly expensive price tag. However, I can't seem to get 1st gens out of my head. This time I would go with an intercooled, club cab model. There is something about being able to fine tune these trucks by just feeling and tweaking them. That and their indestructable. Whaddya all think? A new truck that has a LARGE payment, room for the family, and will have to be a daily driver (due to the payments) or find a nice 1st gen, allow it to be my toy that I can fix the way I want it to be? Opinions? BTW, this isn't the only family hauler, we have a GMC Yukon XL as well. Thanks Guys!!

Agreed, the first gens are great, but the back seat area leaves a lot to be desired. Find one where you can stick the family back there and see how much room there is. I have seen a couple of people remove their jumpseats and have a little bench seat custom made, but it didn't look nearly as spacious as a 2nd gen club cab. Also, I'm not sure how they dealt with the seat belt issue.

brandon, depending on its cancer being from maine, if it was closer id be picking it up myself. mom would be mad cuz we dont have room as it is but like when she asks me "and where would u put it?" i say "i dont know.....ill burn that bridge when i get to it." lol i already have a 1st gen, use to have 2 till my 92 1/2 ton went bye bye to rifleman. but i really want a club cab, auto or not but must be 4wd.

I second the crew cab conversion. Not enough room in the back of a club except for real little boys - but they don't stay real little for very long!

Crew Cab conversion, now that's an idea! I might have to start collecting parts for that one. Where would be the best place to start looking for a truck?

yeah i'd stay with just the good ol trusty, reliable, and easily fixing 12 valve. A crewcab would be great. That way you could always take it up in the mountains or something and not have to worry about hurtin it so bad since its not a brand new truck and it'd be much cheaper!

Yeah after thinking about it, I think a crew cab conversion is going to be the way to go. I almost did it with my '89 motor, but plans changed. I have time to do this, so I think it would work out the best. That way I can build the exact truck I want, with an engine that has the power I want, and take the time to restore the whole thing. The crew cab also gest the family hauling issues out of the way. I knew you guys would show me the way!

Seeing how much they want for a new truck I would start looking for those 85 CC 6bt conversions that pop up on ebay/CL once in a while and buy Myself one, then put all the goodies I want in it and still be way below the price for a new one. Now that is what I'm doing with My truck and I think it is well worth the effort.
