I have a guy possibly interested in trading a 1998 2wd 12v for my explorer. The thing has 264k miles on it and with the original auto. There's some rot on it and a few little issues here and there. Should I steer clear of this or what?

I'd want to get it bought cheap enough that if you had to put a transmission in it you wouldn't be out too much money but at the same time if he got that many miles out of the factory transmission I'd say that's a pretty good sign the truck was treated well.

Please elaborate on your trade a little more. I have read of many people paying a pretty penny for a 98 12v. If your explore is older this may be a very good deal for you even if you do invest in a new tranny with in the next year or so.
