Red face Should I go to a 3rd gen?

Ok here it is my brother has offered to sell me his 03 HD 2500 4x4 with 24k its a crewcab long box with a 8' Boss plow still all orig paint it hasn't plowed last two years.the truck is plain rubber floor mats tweed seats, auto. needs doors on pass side my sister in law hit his tractor the doors open and possibly could be repaired with door skins otherwise truck is flawless low mileage. So question is should I sell my 98.5 24v quad 2wd 53 block w152k miles.and buy his for 23,000.he paid 38k 4years ago and has only drivin it 24k.I own mine and would probably buy his cash as well so it isnt a finance issue, just is it worth moving to CRD.as well I tow a gooseneck 14k and a 16' 7000 lb car trailer.wondering how stable the 4x4 tows versus my 2wd. thanks for any input .Bill

I would go for the '03 if his price was right, but the price is way too high. Try to get him down in the 15k range and you have a fair deal.

I went from a 97 3/4T 5sp 2wd. I'm very happy and wouldn't go back. I see the 03 of your friends is a CC - I wanted my 03 for the QC, 6sp and all the other improvements. I got twice the truck I had before. All my friends with early 24v run fuel additive and only one had a lift pump failure so they're really pretty reliable - contrary to some of the stories. Pretty much the same thing with the CRs. That sounds like a good price, definately worth considering. My 2wd handles like a car and the 03 4wds I've driven were fine. Craig

I hate to call a relative into question - but there seems to be something just a bit too fishy going on with this '03. It's been hit and not fixed - and he still wants $23 for a non-SLT truck?! It's not been registered?! What's up with this truck - and why do you suppose he wants out of it? And if you're laying out $23k on something, might be best to make sure it's exactly what you want.

Sure go to a 3rd Gen- but I'd steer well clear of this one. Not to mention, to preserve GOOD relations, I will NOT but a veichle from a family member. I've been tempted a few times, but always more important matters have prevailed. Just my $.02, but I really wouldn't do it....

lol he hasnt reg'd cause hes over the road long haul driver is back every few months.he bought this truck to contract out to town for road plowing/sanding then bought new road tractor a month later. His current broker is a long haul deal he is out at least 2 months at a time.the price is payoff of truck/plow.I wouldn't hold him to issues on truck.just wondered value and if is worthy of considering.this truck has plowed little towed none.and starts when I drive over to keep running.I can get doorskins and put on and paint for 500.00 I realize this drives value down and I know if found similar truck I could buy for 16k I know this ones history its 3 miles from one of my houses and used to see him daily.my biggest worry is junk auto tranny. guessing I could wait and see if sells then when payoff is lower if doesnt sell buy. It would be good to check NADA and check the cost of fixing it - maybe it's not such a good deal. I paid $27500 when mine was 37 mon. old and had 25k miles. It was debadged and I don't know what the models are anymore but it's fairly loaded. Carpet, premium cloth, 40-20-40 seat, QC, power seat, side airbags, power/heated tow mirrors, overhead puter, multi disc changer/Infinity and all the other nice stuff. Craig

That should have the updated "48 series" automatic transmission in it, I beleive the last of the 47's died out with the second gen's. Might ask in the 3rd gen section. It's nice of you to help out but it still sound like too much to pay out for this rig.
