What shocks are you guys running? Like them and Do they make a difference?
Hey guys, Im in the process of making my truck a DD. And needs some suspension work. The rear shocks are rotted gone, so i'm guessing the fronts are just as bad. I've never changed them but the ride never bothered me. The more I drive it the more it annoys me. My first question do the shocks really make a huge difference. I know on my bikes, and lighter cars the suspension is a huge deal, but with a 3/4 ton truck, huge coils and springs are new shocks really going to make a huge improvement in both ride and control? And second what are you guys running? I'm looking for a better ride quality and better control with out spending a fortune. And 3rd How hard is a shock swap on this rig? Can I do it with basic tools or is it worth the $$ to have someone else do it?
Thanks in advance.

I have KYB in the front (100each) lifetime warrentee, and ProComp in the rear (50$each) life time warrentee. If I had to do it again Procomp for sure as I see no ride differences for 1/2 the price.
I believe I've heard Bileinstens are one of the best

I went with full hydraulic LTV shocks on the 01 dodge. I found that gas charged stuff is junk for the load that I carry, and the roads that I drive. As well, the gassers didn't hold up to cold weather operation all that well.
I have had them on for 3 years, with no issues so far. in the cold, the ride might be a little stiffer/clunkier, but I'll put up with that knowing that the shocks will continue to do their job.

I threw away Ranchos. Tried Bilstein 5100's, and they were much better, but crazy wheel-hop on washboard & gravel roads. The shocks I've kept are KYB Monomax's. 70K miles, on and off-road, loaded and unloaded, trailering and not. No fluid loss, no settling, not even rusty (still that awful pink color....)

Monroe all the way around with free parts and labor lifetime replacement.
Much better than stock but it's still a truck.
I don't expect them to ever ride like a passenger car.

I have the Rancho RS9000s, they seem to be pretty good, they were good for me anyway as I got them for free, I really havent messed with a lot of the settings, I have them in the middle setting. My truck has the camper special package so I have the rear sway bar with the overloads, so it doesent matter what shock I go with the thing rides like a tractor. Its nice when I get a load in the bed though!

Les Schwab house brand. Heavy duty gas shocks with larger shafts and lifetime warranty to boot. Dad's got Bilsteins, I can't tell the difference.
