Shimmy @ 62-68 on gps.
Well I took my truck on a decent road trip down to Lake Cumberland, Kentucky (about 3.5-4 hours)> The truck ran great got about 17.5mpg cruised at 73-75 miles per hour and everything was great except for this **** shaking. It was on not death wobble, it was very light compared to that, but it was annoying none the less. What do you all think could be causing this. My truck has the steelies that are chromed. I was thinking that if it wasn't a badly balanced rim/tire, that may be a bent rim. Also I was wondering if there could be any other reason for this vibration, something thats common?

I dont know, i need to find out this week whats going on, I plan on making the same trip next week pulling a boat. While on the tire subject what kind of miles have those of you with the mud grapplers getting out of them. I love the look of them and I am thinking about getting them with some new rims very soon.

Swayse, I've noticed that you have made a few posts commenting about your Toyo's being "out of round." Have you ever confirmed this with a tire shop, or are you just making an educated guess? The reason I'm asking is that I have the same size Toyo MT's and I think I have the same problem. I've had all the front end components and front and rear u-joints checked out and even had dynabeads installed to help the balance. This seems to be the only conclusion I can come up with. Mine is more of a shimmy than a true distinct vibration, that occurs at about 70mph and smooths out at about 80. It also seems to get worse as the tires heat up. Is this similar to what is going on with yours? Thanks in advance for your input.

I thought I was crazy. Last weekend on the way home from Boise mine did the same thing. I have the exact problem with 285 70R 17 Toyo AT on 2007. The first 1500 miles no problem. I went to Les Schab on Monday and they rebalanced and rotated. They said the tires were fine and not out of round. I'm running 55 lbs PSI in front and 50 in the rear, unloaded. I'm thinking of reducing the air pressure a little bit. I never noticed this when I had the factory BFG 265's.
Any recommendations for the air pressure on factory rims?

I just had that problem with my Hankook 315s. Between 55 and 65, the truck had a bad shimmy. I eventually checked the pressure and found the right rear at 20 psi. These things must have some strong side walls. I couldn't even tell the tire was low. I hauled 2000 lbs of retainer wall block the day before and really couldn't tell the difference between the 20 psi and the other one at 60.
I've never had a tire shake when it went down like that. When I aired it up, the shake went away.

I have it too with my 2wd. Exactly those speeds. My tires are checked and balanced.
I'd imagine we're due for new u-joints on the drive shaft. I've had my new ones for awhile but haven't put them on.

same issue here. was really noticeable when i had the 35-12.5x17 BFG KM2's -D. now i'm running GY AT/S in a LT275-65x20-E. not near as bad.
thought it was the front drive shaft also. removed it, drove around and still had the shimmy at the same speed.
there is something going on with these trucks. too many have the same issue.
hopefully somebody will figure it out for us.
i've had thoughts about it being caused by the engine...idk

towed my small trailer today with my grizz 700 on it, notice that the shimmy was almost non-existance. hmmmmm? maybe the problem is coming from the rear and not from the front

I was thinking the same. I pulled my front driveshaft and the shimmy is still there, so I can't help but think mine is originating from the rear. I'm still stuck on the out of round tire idea. I pulled my front tires one at a time and put the spare on and drove it around and the shimmy was still there. Tomorrow I'm going to do the back 2 tires and see if there is a change.
