Question Shift Linkage 727 Auto Question

I picked up an 89 D350 with the Cummins-727 Automatic combination. Had it up on the carlift earlier today and found the control shift arm on the transmission was loose. Well I tightened it up but I need to readjust it as you need to lift up on the shift lever in the truck to remove the key. I had the selector in the "1" position while I tightened it but the danged linkage gets in the way of turning the wrench. So before I break something I thought I would ask, how does the linkage that has the hardened rubber bushings come apart. It looks like it should just press out of the rubber. Is there some type of retainer that I'm not seeing?
