Shift firmness question

I have my shift firmness set to mild for my dtt trans. It still jerks back when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and then a little bit for 2nd to 3rd. Is there any thing i can do to make this less noticable? (Its made my girlfriend kinda nervous everytime she gets in my truck and she complains...alot.)

I know what you mean. I think that the "jerkiness" is a good sign that the tranny is tight and in good shape. I don't think anything can be done about it. My '06 is the same way. I used to own a large diesel pusher rv with a big block Cummins and 6 speed Allison. The shifts on it were the same way. I think is is just a characteristic of the heavy duty trannys. I know this isn't much help other than to let you know it's "normal". pcm

Probably thinking of a Shift enhanser, TS performance and DTT both have one. As I understand it these are used to help with the 1-2 and 2-3 shuttle shifts and 1-2 flair shifts that some of us get with low throttle input shifts on a built trans. I may be wrong, but I don't think a shift enhanser will help with shift "Firmness" I think shift firmness is dependant on how your VB was set up by the builder.

It took Bill and John 3 attempts between them discussing (arguing) about what I wanted, but finally John got a the VB to still provide adequate pressures without slamming into gear. My truck only shifts slightly more firm than stock unless I'm pulling a heavy load - then you can feel it a lot more. So it can be done with the correct Vb set up, but it would cost you more money at this point.

And thats money i dont have at the moment. I dont know about the trans. itself, but the tc was set up to provide the best pulling power possible. Mine was, or the way i took it, set up to provide the best power to the wheels possible. In other words, power instead of comfort.

You can change springs in the valve body to make it shift however you like.

How much does that cost? Is it hard or just a pain in the butt?

That's not necessarily true. It depends on other factors such as the holes drilled in the separator plate, number of clutches in the packs, etc. I had a Goerend VB when I first had extra clutches added, and no matter what was tried, it shifted like a ton of bricks. Had to start with a completely different VB to soften it up.
