Shift Down at Stop

Once in awhile, doesn't do it all the time, when I come to a complete stop, my tranny doesn't shift back into 1st. It'll start off in 3rd.
If I go to park, shut down and restart, it'll be back in 1st.

Where should I be looking? Seems like it should be a simple problem.

Thanks

Check governor system pressure. Governor pressure should increase / decrease with vehicle speed and must drop below 3 PSI for proper downshift to 1st gear when stopped. Governor solenoid and transducer usually fix this problem. Also check Trans output speed sensor operation. Scan tool would be required to monitor these sensors while driving. Make sure there are no codes stored in the JTEC controller if there is a code P1763 that will put trans into limp in mode 3rd gear only until key off resets the JTEC controller.. There is a flash to correct this problem Erroneous MIL Illumination For P1763 – Trans. Governor Pressure Sensor Volts Too High
