Shift column drive lights

Hey guys...

Experiencing some weirdness with my shift column lights the past couple days.

It started yesterday when I hopped out of the truck with the engine running. Stepped out and the truck alarm started going off. The shift column lights were all flashing with circles around them as well. The alarm wouldn't shut off until I shut the engine down. Started up the truck again, stepped out and it started doing it again. Left it off for a few minutes and came back out and fired it up. Put it in D and it shows it's in first gear. Put it back in Park and it shows fine, but I move it back to Drive and again shows it's in 1st gear.

Finally, I clicked the ignition off/on 4 times quickly and it flashed up an error code (dont' remember what it is at the moment) and cleared. After that, the shift lights were fine again. Today on the way back to the office, my wife emails me to let me know it's doing it again. Any ideas?

If you guys need it, I'm sure I can probably get the error code tonight since it happened again. If so, let me know.

Thanks!

OK, an update...

Happened again this morning. Trouble code is P0514- Battery Temperature Sensor Performance / Rationality.

I found some references for the code in the archives. Obviously this isn't the source of my problems, so apparently the root cause isn't throwing up a code. We dropped it off at the dealer today to look at, so we'll see what he says.

Down another $100, plus $80 or so for diagnostics...Gee am I glad I got the extended warranty. This friggin truck's been in the shop more than my past 4 vehicles put together. So much for Heavy Duty...

Sorry boys, but this will probably be my last Cummins...and this from the son of a retired Chrysler employee (my dad, 2 uncles and a aunt retired from the Belvidere, IL plant after 25-30 years each). Although I never thought I'd hear myself say it, this truck (coupled with the customer service of all the dealers I've had the "pleasure" of working with) has just about convinced me why I should be buying foreign. Our other car is a 2002 Mistubishi Eclipse and the only thing I've done with it in nearly 100K mi is change fluids and tires.

I'll probably place another call to Customer Care to see what they'll do for me. This is literally the 4th time I've had my truck in the shop over the past year with some kind of significant problem. Guess I just picked a lemon...

Any advice on the problem code or anything else, please let me know.
