Serious help needed here. VP44 probs?

I was hoping people could help me diagnose a possible Vp44 problem on my '99 Ram 2500. Unfortunately I do not have a Fuel Pressure guage, it was due to arrive from Geno's Garage on Thursday. This truck has 152,000 miles on it with the original IP. It has an aftermarket LP that is mounted in the stock LP location though. It had displayed some signs of dead pedal syndome recently but it would only be for a second so I thought it was my imagination. Twice recently I had a leak in my fuel lines and it sucked air and killed the engine though. I found a cracked hose clamp today that was the culprit on that.

Anyway I was driving today and was running down hill. I was off the throttle and when I got back on I had a definite dead pedal. Then the truck started to sputter. When it sucked air before it just died instantly, but today it started to sputter and did that for about 400 yards and then the engine died. I rolled it into a parking lot off the freeway, stopped and tried to turn it over. It caught a little and then acted as it has when I had air in the lines...nothing doing.

My brother in law(a diesel mehcanic for PG &E) came out and we went through the standard air in the lines procedure. Cracked 1,3,4, and five injectors. We got fuel from the #3 injector pretty quick but never got any from the others. We also tried the injector lines where they leave the IP and got nothing except from #3 Is this indicative of a dead IP? My brother in law said that sometimes when an IP goes it will be stuck at 1 injector position or something like that but he doesn't know exactl how the VP44 is. The flow from the LP through the filter seems good but, try as hard as we could, we couldn't get any flow from any of the other injectors. I really don't want to go and shell out to have it diagnosed at a dealership if it sounds like a definite on the IP. I just want to order the **** thing and get it replaced. Any other suggestions on how to test to see if it is the IP or something else much less severe?

Also does anyone knw the best place to order the Fed Ex version of the VP44? Also where can I find that instrucional on how to replace it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Get the codes read. Sometimes there are no codes and it's still the VP. As far as the FedEx pump is concerned, all of the rebuilt pumps have the upgraded electronics, here's a link to find a pump in your area ... don't get hoodwinked by the terminology and BS. http://www.boschservice.com/ If you need instructions for the R&R, PM your email address and I'll send them to you.
