how to Select a Camshaft?

Hey guys
I got another question. If you want to change your camshaft, how do you select the right one. Take a look at Peak Diesel, http://www.peakdieselperformance.com/camshafts.html.
I believe you can gain torque and lower EGTs with a aftermarket Camshaft.

Please post your opinions

Or you can call the seller tell him your plans and what you plan to do with it. I was on the phone with the guy I bought my cam from for over a hour before I ordered it

I think this is good advice, just be honest with the dealer as to your goals.
I have dealt with both Harry @ Peak and Don @ F1 and both were great to deal with, I'm pretty sure they will both sell you what you need.

From what I see in your signature you won't gain much from it, especially at your power level. Lloyd M. installed a cam on BSWOPE's truck. There is a writeup on here about it with a dyno run before and after. He had alot more done to his truck than you.

There is a writeup on here but not a bunch of info, there is another thread on CompD about cams benefits and Lloyd posted my dyno sheets before and after the swap in there.... this has alittle more info.

according to what I beliefly saw on the link. People state after doing a cam they see little or no difference.
anyways, My question was more on how to select the right cam. what type of techinical detail must you know in order to make sure you are on the right track. of course i can talk to a salesmen, but i want to learn a little before i do that.

it depends on what you are doing with the truck. you can get a towing cam with more duration adn lift added to the exhaust side
racing drop in cam that changes both lobes
racing cam that require piston cutting
pulling cam with no reliefs needed
pulling cam with piston reliefs needed.
call hamilton cams or motorsports supply and talk to either zach or greg about your needed. They are not salesmen they are the builders and you can also call colt cams i know he has over 60 of greg's profiles for cams
