Searching for the GOOD stuff...CI-4 Plus
I am in North FL and tripped over the Valvoline Premium Blue CI-4 Plus at Advanced Auto. Seems they shipped out to all our local stores the formula many of us pre-08 folks are looking for.
Good luck...

Then you better buy it up while you still can cause once that's gone off the store shelves the only way you'll be able to buy the old + oil is bulk in a 50 gallon drum.

why is it that the new oil is bad for the older diesels? DIESEL POWER mag had an article on the new oil and it basically stated that it provided better protection than the ci-4 plus, and would be better to run the new oil especially when usdl was used

I know this thread is a few months old but I thought I would chime in.
I had always used Delo 400 15w-40 (CI-4 plus), when I ran out I bought the Delo 400 15w-40 LE (CJ) thinking it was the same stuff. I have been trying to get the Valvoline Premium Blue Classic Through NAPA with no luck. One NAPA said they could get it but it's not a stock item and they would have to order a Pallet of it so they wont? Valvoline says I can only get it at NAPA? Neither NAPA or Valvoline has been any help. Well, While I was at NAPA I saw a 5 Gallon pail of Delo 400 15w-40 CI-4 plus (not LE/CJ). After a few emails with Chevron giving them Batch numbers and fill dates (Oct-2007) of the pails they told me that they are still filling 5 gallon pails and drums with the old Delo 400 CI-4 plus. I bought a couple of pails. There were also some pails of the LE with different batch and product numbers. Anyway it sounds like there is still some Delo CI-4 plus around.

Be careful, I saw the same thing at Auto Zone. Read close, it appears that the bottle also says CJ as well as CI.

there was an article somewhere....cant remember if mag or online...but showed those that tested as true CI-4+ and he said the Amsoil 5w30 Heavy Duty Syn Oil was a true CI-4+ oil. There were two others and I will look up the article and find it again...

actually it was not amsoil as in BEST....but only GOOD...the thing I looked at the most is which ones claim to be CI-4+ and then which ones actually tested as BEST and GOOD for CI-4+.
Cummins, Shell Rotella, Amsoil and Caterpillar were the best ones I think that gave good results and performed better or as good as expected for a CI-4+ diesel oil.
