What sealant for transmission and diff covers?

Howdy!

I'm going to crack open my NV5600 and Dana 80 this weekend and drop in Red Line into both of them. Last time I did this, just bought sealants from the dealership (gray pasty stuff for the diff and black silicone for the transmission), but the dog found the tubes and tried to eat them (dumb dog). I'm just going to go to the local AutoWhatever and get some stuff, but I'm wondering what's the best sealant for each of these applications.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Tad

I prefer an anaerobic sealant like Loctite 510 http://68.72.74.108/PRODUCTS/510.htm
RTV will not cure without air, that's why you have to let it dry a bit before putting the parts back together and to be absolutely safe from leaks should let it cure for a day before adding oil and driving.
With an anaerobic sealant you can slap it together and go without worry of leaks.
I get 510 from Napa.

I didn't have much luck with the gray pastey stuff. When I filled the diff the next day, the oil disolved the goop and it started to leak. I've had good results with this stuff:

.....and something called "Hondabond" that I got from a motorcycle dealership on a recommendation. It was, as you can imagine coming from Honda, expensive as heck. I like the Permatex.
