General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I saw this at Cummins when I picked up my parts a few weeks ago...

Yeah its short, but this thing pulled in and was blowing whitish gray smoke EVERYWHERE!

The guy left the truck runing so I shot a small movie with my phone...

It was B-A-D

Yikes, that thing is not healthy at all. I remember where I worked one summer, the shop next to us was a HD truck shop and they had this one Ford 9000 with a Cummins in it (8.3 or 5.9?) that was beat to heck. Well I'm sitting there minding my own business, I had the shop door open (hot summer day) and I start to smell that sweet variation of diesel. It's the kind that almost makes your eyes water. Well I turn around to see their shop (big shop, enough to house 2 semis comfortably and then some) to be completely engulfed in this blue cloud of diesel. I don't know what was wrong with that thing but it was running ROUGH. Heck when they pulled the air filter, around a pound of straw came with it .

Our old 7.3 used to smoke something wicked before we got rid of her at work, one cold day we started her up to warm up and this lady comes in screaming that a car must have fallen off the overpass and caught fire. I run out to check and notice the 7.3 smoking away and start laughing while trying to explain to her that it was just the truck. She cussed at me and said that she was going to call the EPA, and the emissions department on my company, I told her good luck these don't need to be smogged.

My 2000 POS-Stroke would randomly fog my entire yard upon start-up. Of course dealer said it was bad fuel. Hmmm, so the fuel that lasted two weeks would be bad one day but ok the rest of the time?
