Safe weight for bed!

I have to get some rock for a drive way and was wondering how much I could put in my bed and be safe from breaking anything? The rock yard is kinda far and didnt wont to make several trip back!

one ton of rock would probably be pushing it for the bed sides. I used to haul gravel in my 78 when I landscaped. The bed sides are now showing the abuse. our 68 never had a problem though!

If you are just making a few trips I would fill the bed till it squates the truck down just past level. I have hauled sand in the bed of my 98 and I filled it heaping full and it just sat level and made it ride like a 1/2 ton. I burn corn for heat and before I bought my wagon I used to go to the elevator and fill the box of the truck. A short box truck will hold rite at 40 bushel filled flush with the bed rails. That comes out to 2200 pounds and you could barely even tell it was back there. That would make my 04 2500 sit perfectly level. I would say for a 1 or 2 time haul on deserted back roads 3-4000#, if it will fit, should be OK.

I had 5K of sand on my 99 but it had a flatbed. SCARY!!!! Almost no steering but I only had to go a mile. I would say no more than 3-4 K

just stack as mutch as you can in the front of the bed stering will be soft if you do not get enough. you can use plywood in the front to get more, be shure to air your tires up to max

Just went to the dump and I had 3,400#'s of rocks and a little bit of dirt/grass. I didn't think I loaded that much, I only loaded 5 buckets from a little bobcat.

Just rent a Uhaul trailer and load it up why take a chance on the bucket operator being up to par. I did it once and when the guy lifted the bucket over cab high and dumped the gravel before I could object lets just say next time I had a trailer to take the abuse.

I Just Hauled 1 yard of sand which I have been told is around 2700lbs. It was a little squishy feeling but was not a problem.

A pallet of wet grass...about 3k+ lbs. Not much of a problem but would not recommend making a long trip. A trailer would be much safer. Keep the weight lower to the ground.

This reminds me, I had a buddy that knew a gal named Henrietta Heavylunch. He had a hard time hauling her around with damage to his truck.
