Safe 12V Towing Power

We have a 95 12V farm truck with a 5spd tranny. We would like to gain about 50-70hp for towing. Should I get an aftermarket fuel plate or can you modify the stock plate? If I need a new plate, which company should I go with and what plate? Also should I install the plate in the stock position or slide it a little bit forward? Again I'm not trying to win any dyno contests, I'm just looking for a little more towing power. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Pull the plate out completely and give it a try. If you don't like it, grind the stock plate into a profile you think would be suitable. It'll take some experimentation on your part to find out what you like. Every truck is a little bit different, and everyone sets them up differently.

I thought about that but wouldn't that be too much fuel for a truck that is constantly towing something and usually pretty heavy?

Make your own plate, I believe you will get too hot without a plate at all.

Here is Infidels stock image, enjoy.

The fuel plate is not the only thing that controls fuel... your foot does too! Make sure you get an egt and boost gauge before you do anything and turn the boost up with a boost elbow, 35psi is safe. Broadening your powerband would help too. A 3k or 4k govenor spring kit would give you usable power (I always recommend the 4k kit)
