S300G shaft play
Just got my turbo in the mail. Bought it off e-bay and blah blah blah I know, could have ended up with a dud. Anyhow, it has some endplay in the shaft. More than what my HX35 has. Measure with a dial indicator it is about .030". Is that acceptable or out of limits to run on the truck. Guy that sold it said he didnt like how it ran on his 01 24V but that it only had a couple thousand miles on it. It looks to be in great shape and not worn out but I am concerned with the play in the shaft. There is no evidence of the compressor making contact with the housing so that is reassuring but still want something definate before it is installed. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that sound about right. When I got my HTT 62/14 I tought I got a bunk turbo, with all of the side to side play in it. I called them and they told me they are just setup looser, than a HX35.

End play or side to side play? If you have .030" end play you got some problems. The spec on a HX35 is (.001-.005") end play and (.013-.020") side to side play, holset calls it radial movement.

So it is side to side play. There is no in and out play. Just looks crazy how loose it is. Scared to put it on like that with the HX35 being so tight after 175k miles. Dont want to have to do a turbo swap on the side of the road.

I would call HTT or II and ask them what to expect with the side to side play, knowing they set them up a little looser. .030" might be ok if its one they setup.

HTT said that some units come from the factory with .025 side to side play and that they are going to be relatively slopy compared to older style turbos. I told him Im at about .030 and he said that is on the outer limit of what is acceptable but that as long as I have no in and out play and no contact between the compressor and the housing I should be ok.

I am interested in selling it, currently have a guy local interested and I have a classifieds add on this site. If it falls through local then I will let you know. Dont think Im selling the BW unit. As hard as it is to determine tone and intent while reading text, I assume you are being sarcastic.

TUrbo went on, absolutely no problems with the turbo. Install was a PITA. Had to remove wastegate as the oil return line wouldnt go in with it in there. Made 396/783 on the Dyno.
