S.O. with 48RE?

Just looked at a 03 Laramie one ton dually and the valve cover label says 250 hp. @ 2900 rpm. (standard output motor). The build date is April 2003. The person still had the window option sticker and it shows the 48RE transmision.

I thought 48RE's were only available with the H.O. motor. Does anyone have this combination and how do you like it.

Does anyone know the tow rating for this vehicle. The Dodge tow guide doesn't specify 47RE or 48RE with the S.O. motor, it just says 4 spd. automatic. (10,950 lbs )

Thanks.

at some point in early 2003, ALL trucks with slush boxes came with the 48re. They did away with that pos 47re.

The story with the Ho, and the 48re is that in order to get the HO with an auto, you had to waight for the 48re to be introduced.

Is that true about the 10,950 tow raiting? i thought it would be higher.

One way to tell if in fact does have the 48re. Take it for a ride and put her in 2. As she goes through the gears, she will lock the TC after the second shift. the 47re does not do this.

Hope this helps

i just stated this in another post here this morning, There is a sticker in the glove box with a number, the letters/number should read DG8, if its DG8 its the 48re. if your build date is april 03, it will be the 48re because dodge started putting the 48re in the SO motors starting the date of Jan 1, 03

Thanks guys.

HorseHauler, what rear gear do you have and when you tow your trailer loaded with ponies does she stay in OD. When you say 14,000# GN could you set me straight.....is that combined truck and trailer weight?

dodgedude361, I thought the tow rating would be higher too. You would think the 47RE S.O. combination would be lower than the 48RE S.O. combo. Can anyone shed some light.

Thanks.

hey, i have the 3.73 gears, i always turn my overdrive off untill i get to 55-60 then i turn it back on, it stays in OD pretty good untill i hit a decent hill then she will shift down, but i usually hit the OD off button before that happens... 14,000# GN meaning the trailer is rated to carry 14,000# sorry for the confusion. ive hauled pretty heavy though with this truck, probably right around 14,000# with my 4-horse.... truck did pretty good untill you hit a decent hill then it backs down a little but not too bad... hope this helps
