RV Hot Water Heater....?
Why does the water in my shower run hot and cold with only the hot water on? It will run warm for a minute or so and then get cold....turn it off....then warm again for a short time.
Since the water here eats everything up (2nd element in three years) , I switched it from electric over to LPG. Same thing...... The water is the sink stays hot, but the shower does not.

In the shower water control valve, there is probably a balance valve going bad. Had that in the shower in my house once. Probably use something similar. The valve that is supposed to keep you from getting scalded if someone flushes the toilet!

You need to check the voltage coming out of the pigtail to the brake wires, see if it is up to speed. If nothing has been done to the brakes over that time, it needs new magnets. Bearings and brake shoes need to be checked.
Pull the hubs, check it all out, or have someone do that for you.

Opps, had a phone call, reponded to the wrong thread.
The water heater needs to be drained and have the crud flushed out at least annualy. Propane is the better way to heat the water quickly. If that does not work, you may want to get an RV dealer to check it out.
Do try to clean out the burner tube of any gunk, and see if it fires properly.
WD 40 on the electric connections is also a good measure.

Thanks supr.
I drain it every winter. I can see the flames and they are burning like, well, you know where. I'll WD40 the connections when I'm back up there again.

Mine did the same thing. Check to see if cold water is combining with the hot water. Mine has a by-pass value that was turned on, thus letting the cold mix in. I shut the valve off and all was well.

Good point! When I turned everything back on this year, I remember opening two valves....one white and one red. I need to make sure the white one is not the bypass.

If you have a single handle control I suspect a bad cartridge. I've run into this on home units.
If the local water eats a water heater, I suspect it eats everything in the system.
If you have trouble with semantics, call it a hot water source.......

It's a little two **** jobby. When I get back up there in a few days I'll check the bypass on my "hot water source". Cold water in, hot water out....sounds simple enough.
