rust (?) under the paint
While washing and waxing my truck I noticed what appears to be rock chips in the paint. But on closer examination, they actually appear to be UNDER the clear coat and it looks a brown/rust like color. You do not feel anything when you run your finger of them, but you can see it.
Anyone know what this is?/
thanks

Ok.. that makes sense that it could be the primer.. When you run your fingers over the spot it is smooth, you feel nothing..
Any ideas on what causes this? How to keep it from happening?
thanks

There really isn't too much you can do about it but fill in with touch up paint.
Ways to keep it from happening...
Don't drive on gravel roads or fresh chip coating....
Accelerate really slow and drive slow...
Buy tires with very little tread pattern...
It's a truck drive it and enjoy it... Mine if full of rock chips, scratches, dings... This is what I bought it for to work it!
If you have tires like mine (in photo gallery) you will pick up anything and everything and throw it!

These are not rock chips (i have plenty of those and keep filling them in with paint).. These look like rusting rock chips, put there is no dent/ding and they are smooth to the touch... The clearcoat is not damaged at all..

Those are unusual places to find rust. I figure it would be the bottom of the doors/bed. Where the rocks chip it the most.
I don't know what to say...
But to watch and see if it grows at all... If it is rust it will start to blister in time. If its a clear coated rock chip... Then it will remain the same forever...
