Rubber Door Locks & Billet Aluminum Replacements

Does anyone know if the rubber pulls on our door locks can be unscrewed? I ordered some billet aluminum replacements from Geno's and I tried unscrewing the OEM ones and they are really difficult to turn and didn't appear to be coming off.

yes they can be unscrewed i ordered the same set from geno's. they are very difficult to unscrew but if you take the door panel off then there is a hex at the bottom of the rubber pull. to remove the door panel it is four screws and a bolt. on screw at the mirror, one at the handle and two at the bottom. the bolt is in the door handle and is a 10 mm. once the bolt and screws are out just lift up on the door panel. or you can try unscrewing the lock pull with a pair of pliers.

no problem yeah if your going to do you speakers as well it would be worth removing the door panel. only real hard part is getting the panel to line back up and go back on. but its not really to bad.

I can unscrew my factory door locks with my hands.

I had the Geno's aluminum locks for about 15 minutes before sending them back. They rattled in the door and drove me nuts.

I have heard this from multiple people, which is why I have not bought them, is there any way to fix this? I really like the look of the aluminum locks, since on the 07's the stereo plate is aluminum as well I thought it would look great, but dont want the rattle to drive me nuts...

I'll second the rattle thing. The lock stems aren't big enough to fill the holes.

Something else to watch out for is, when you screw the aluminum stems in it's real easy to break the plastic insert loose inside them since they're only glued in.
They have a long way to screw down and it gets real hard after a certain point.

To solve the rattle issue, I was thinking about wrapping them at the base with a felt tape that I belive can be bought at Hobby Lobby. I'm going to try it out and I'll post back with my findings. Another thing to try would be to slip a real small "O" ring over the base, then screw it back on. The o ring is made of rubber and may prove to be a good barrier between the lock and door panel. If one doesn't work, I'll try the other.

The problem is the part of the door panel that contacts the locks is only a fraction of an inch thick. So if you wrap something around the lock, it has to be long enough to cover the opening in both the locked and unlocked positions, making it visible when the locks are in the unlocked position. The best solution is to put some kind of grommet on the door panel itself.

My stock locks rattle and drive me nuts. I've been thinking about finding some felt tape or something. Anyone found a good way to shut them up?

If you take the door panel off and tape a piece of foam to the metal part of the door between the rod and the metal the rattle will go away. I had to try a few different locations for it but i finally got it right.

Make sure the foam or other substance(steel wool) is thick enough to force the rod outwards against the hole where the **** goes through.

i installed my billet aluminum ones and have no rattle at all. only time i hear them is when they lock as i pull away from a stop. maybe i'm just lucky. but you could try some black felt tape in the opening aropund the lock pull in the door panel then it is in place weather the lock is in the up or down position.
