Rough Start - Due to New 2007 Low Sulfur Diesel?
It might be just me but it has only been 45F-50F here and when I go to start my truck in the morning it runs a little rough but then smooths out after 30 seconds.
It never really did that. Unless it is the drop in temperature (which I doubt). I believe it is because I started to pump the new 2007 LSD Diesel fuel...
I will for sure keep using Marvel Mystery and Power Service as I don't trust the new fuel. I have a feeling this NEW fuel is sort of like the 1970's when going from LEADED to UNLEADED, while the cars were designed to run on LEAD, the LEADED cars ran crappy and busted valves, valves seats, pre-ignited and shortened the engine life of those pre UnLeaded cars.

I had the same problem several weeks ago. At first I thought I got a bad batch of diesel, but it was from a reliable station and one that I use often. I also had PS in the tank so I kind of ruled out water. I then filled up with B20 (which I do periodically anyway) and the problem went away immediately. I then filled up at a Shell Truck Stop (great price for around here 2.45) and started having the same problem. This last tank I went back to B20 and guess what no problem starting. I have to agree with you, it's starting to sound like a low sulfur problem.

Are you sure it was actually ULSD with 15ppm sulfur? The station I fill up at has a sticker on the pump that says it is ULSD but the sulfur content is 500ppm which is just LSD. Has to be the colder weather. My truck did the same thing yesterday when the temp was 50.

What's B20? I've been having the rough idle and started using Diesel Kleen to resolve it. I'm thinking Winter fuel may have arrived in CA. I wonder what the combination of that and ULSD is going to produce?

Screw the Low Sulfer problem and go with 100% Bio-Diesel like I have. I don't have any of those problems.
I make the Good stuff in the garage, only drawback is the constant food smell.

If the ULSD is what I have been running, an honestly I don't know......My truck seems to be running very well on it. My mileage has increased slightly, but that could be due to the Smarty.
But one thing that is different on my truck in the past 2000 miles or so...is my fuel pressure seems to be running about 2 psi higher than before with no known reason. It has cooled off some if that effects it? Last week I changed my fuel filter but that made no difference before or after. Just curious if anybody else is getting a higher reading on their FP gauge.

At the temps described in the first post, these trucks won't start and run their best. There is a compromise with the cold start program on these trucks. My truck has always started rough and blwon white smoke at those temps. Anything colder or anything warmer and the problem does not exist. Maybe some more people from cold climates will post their results. Sometimes at those temps my grid heaters will come on for a very short time but the 3rd injection event comes on no matter what. I have observed the EGT's upon startup to go into the mid to high 300's with no grid heater on. If it's cold enough for the grid heaters to stay on and cycle then that warm air helps the combustion of the extra fuel from the 3rd injection event is what I imagine what happens. I was interested to see what the 06's do because dad's 06 rairly has the grid heater cycle in this kind of weather (45-60).
