Question Rough Idle = Injector Issue????

Just got my 2007 5.9 back from the dealer. I took it in for a rough idle at start up with a little white smoke. They did all the tests that they could do and found nothing??? Any ideas from anyone would be so helpful?? Any ideas Don, I'm lost....

Wondering if it was something else they didn't check for??

Sticking FCA on the cp3 maybe??? I assume no codes if the dealer gave it back to you. Does the rough idle go away when you give it some pedal, does it worsen, or smooth out. Do you notice any erratic rpm fluctuations while driving???

Had the same issue and told the dealer it was injectors since this has happened before. They tested each one and replaced all 6. No more problems. If they're testing properly they need the truck for quite awhile. Especially since mine only did it after sitting a long time. They had mine almost a week.

Just had an injector replaced in mine for rough idle on cold start and excessive white/blue smoke. The truck may need to sit at the dealer overnight and be checked in the morning, sometimes it may not show up after it's warm.

No codes ever since I owned the truck. It idles rough with a little bit of smoke but clears up after 1 or so minutes. Thats why I was thinking it was a leaky injector. It's perfect after its warm and drives great. The fuel milage is suffering. They had the truck all day and then checked it again the next morning. Do you guys think it would be CP3 related??

Should I take it to a different dealer??

I got a P2149 Fuel Injector Group 2 Supply Voltage Circuit code about 2 months ago and it really hasn't been the same since!!

You have an injector going south, from the looks of that code its probably cylinder 3 or 4. Have you checked your oil???

I check my oil at least 5 times a week. No increases and it doesn't smell of diesel. Thats the weird part. If I hold onto all injector lines, they are smooth exept for #1. The line hammers very hard compared to the rest??

It is probably an intermittent issue. That code shows group 2. Group 1 is #1 & 2, Group 2 is #3 & 4, and Group 3 is #5 & 6 cylinders. And that code usually points to injector failure or hung up. Its possible its not bad enough to cause this to happen everytime, try running some injector cleaner through the system and see it it helps. Its possible your injector has some crud in it that is allowing it to seep fuel.

They said they did a kill test on each injector with no noise change?? These guys here are really good with warranty. How can I check them out myself without pulling them. I have a complete set of pretty much new injectors and 1 new one too that I was going to send to Don but I don't have the 1500.00 right now to do that. That way I could just change them and move on but cashflow is tight.

They need to do a return flow test on each one. The kill test will not tell you anything if the injector is leaking.

A return test would help to find a leaker. They really need to isolate which injector has a high rate if they find a high value during the complete test.

Another thing is the solenoid might be going. The amature could be scuffed too. Both are rare on a 07 though.

In a few weeks when things slow up, you can send em here. I can at least check them and see if I can find anything wrong. The only thing about sending them to me is the shipping cost both ways is kinda high since we need to insure them for loss or damage.

Thanks so much Don. I might have to do that. Shipping isn't that bad. Who knows, by then I should have the cash to make the spare set of 7 pretty much new injectors into some Flux 1.8's...

I think I should really change out each one to find the culprit and then send those ones to you??

I checked them all and they were 1 ohm except for #6. It was 1.6 ohms. Go figure the hardest one is #6. Does this sound like the problem. I'm still wondering why when I hold on to each line while the truck is running, the only line that hammers is #1???
