Rotella T

This oil has the proper rating for the Cummins, any comments on it's quality?

Also, can someone provide the link to the "approved oil filters", it was a TSB or something like that.

Thanks.

For filters, stick with the Fleetguard Stratopore filters and you'll never have a problem.

For oil...anything with a CI-4 rating. The most popular dino juice oils are Rotella T, Mobil Delvac 1300 Super, Delo 400 and a few others. My preference is the 1300 Super from Mobil.

Then there's synthetics....Delvac 1, Rotella T Synthetic, Amsoil, Mobil 1 Truck & SUV (same as Delvac 1), yada, yada, yada....

Do a search of the forum on oil and you'll find more reading then you ever care to look at.

To answer your question directly though, there's nothing wrong with Rotella T. Lots of folks have been using it for millions of miles.

......other than the smell. It's affectionately called "Rosmella" for a reason.

I have used Rotella T for 10 years in 3 trucks. Very good oil and many large trucks use it and many of them have joined the million mile club, so it must be pretty good. Some of the additives are what can make the perfume odor for a few hundred miles after an oil change. Also Shell greases are some of the best in the industry.

I got a Thermo King diesel reefer with 31,000 engine hours on it---yes, you read that right. And it has used nothing but Rotella. It uses oil and smokes at times but it still is reliable as can be. For those of you who aren't math majors, that is 3.53 YEARS of continuous operation under load, most of it full throttle. That would be like 1,240,000 miles on a semi that averaged 40 mph for its life.

For my baby though it gets Delvac 1 when its cold!

Rotella T here too, also use it in my big truck. As far as filters, I buy the DC ones, same as the stratopore. I get them at my dealer for $8 ea. A good place to get the Rotella is Sam's Club, $31 a case for 6 gallons. Wish they sold the synthetic Rotella T, $31 a gallon at the truck stop. To rich for my blood at those prices.

My family and I have been running Rotella for many years now in diesels and gassers. I even ran Rotella in my Kawasaki GPz1100 dragbike. Never a problem, good stuff.

All I use on the farm and trucks and never noticed the smell but I never notice a lot of stuff till I read it on here. That is the bad side of this site but the good sure sure out weighs it Have used Shell Rimula on some harded used equipment to it is good oil also. The motors on these trucks will out last the rest of the truck with allmost any oil that are made for diesels so why pay high buck for and oil that mite get more than 1 million miles our maybe less that you can get with Rotella?

Never used anything but Rotella T......My local Cummins dealer sells it in the 20 L pails.......you save a lot of money by buying the pails instead of by the gallon............
