anybody had a rod bearing go out? my truck just started making a terrible racket and i am thinking a rod bearing. the engine sounds like its got marbles in it. its a loud constant knocking or rapping sound at idle but as soon as you rev it up a little, it goes away. i have read up a little on other reasons why it could be knocking like this and i have come up with injectors,valves,scored cylinder or pistons and the tranny flex plate. i am just thinking it is a rod bearing because the noise goes away when you rev it up. if it was the injectors, that would be an easy fix. anybody have any ideas???

If it goes away or changes when you put it in gear than it sounds like a flex plate or bolts loose.

a rod knock will continue to knock through rev range. it will get a bit quieter but not go away.

If you have used a Fram oil filter you may have clogged a piston cooling jet. And that will cause a lot of problems.
