Return Line to Tank
I am entertaining the idea of changing my LP setup and I was wondering what is the best way to put my own return line into the tank? basically I am wanting to bring a return line off from my main fuel line back to the tank and in that line will have a regulator. I have it all figured out except how to get a new return to the tank. Anyone know how to make a new connection on the tank? Thanks for your ideas.

Not sure what youre doing.. making an aux tank setup or trying to install a parallel fuel supply system with its own overflow valve in the return? Assuming youre doing an aux setup, Vulcan performance has some draw straw setup that I used on mine with success. it allowed me to leave the stock setup undisturbed and add two lines into the main tank and run hose from back to front. I opted to increase the pickup and return size to 1/2 and 3/8" as well as lose the OE filter assembly in favor of a racor 90gph unit that I put under the bed near the tank. Vulcan also has a combo of fittings and hose that allow connecting a fuel pressure sender real easy. I was really happy with the setup I got.
As far as switching fuel sources, Id look into pollak switches (I have 2 for sale, not even used) if youre switching unheated fuel, or hydraforce switches if you are heating your fuel. You can use one for feed and one for return, allowing you to select source and destination. You technically wouldnt even need a fuel filler neck on an aux tank with this setup.
Id shy away from anything more complicated with pressure regulators and whatnot, keeping a setup real simple makes it easier to fix later. I made dual aux tanks that fit under the bedsides, but Im thinking of selling them and getting a tank to fit where the spare tire is instead. They are too complicated to fill and balance the fuel level in.

On the top of the tank's lid where the fuel level module is and all stock fuel lines are attached is a capped off auxiliary tube. It is a 5/16" tube I think, and I routed my own return line right into it. I would have liked to use a pressure fitting on it but doing that without removing the bed or the tank is impossible, so I resorted to using a piece of 5/16" fuel hose and two clamps. Works very well.

Thanks guys for all your replys....I think doing what PaulDaisy said or using the drawstraw will work just fine. I didn't even think about the drawstraw. Basically I am going to be running a walbro LP so I can get rid of my current pump. I have seen a drop in pressure lately and I am not happy with that. So I will put the walbro in, then down the line from that I will put a T in the line and run a regulated return hose back to the tank to bleed off excess pressure. Thanks again for all your help....

I like Paul's idea also, but I'd like to add that the fitting used on some of the popular walboro setups can be picked up for $20. You cut the filler neck and put the fitting in then run your line to it

I agree with you, but if you pick up the parts your self from vulcan you can do it for the same price as what wide open diesel has there and WOD doesn't include the pump...I can do it with pump for 220.00 from what I have researched...

I used Swagelok compression fittings on 3/8 Nylon-11 tubing for all my LP plumbing. Have not had any problems and the install looks very clean. 5/16" fuel hose slips over Nylon tube well in the few places where I inserted a clear Napa 3003 filter and attached the fuel tank return line.
