Return line Question on P-pump

Return line Question on P-pump
I have been reading up on P-pump problems due to mine not running great (yet) and have read alot about the return line being cracked or leaking fuel. well Since I put this cummins into my GMC truck I ran all new hose to a slip tank in the bed (until i can get a fuel tank to go between the frame in the back) and I ran the return to the top of the tank.. So my question is does the return line need to be lower so there is fuel in the line? I am not sure if Dodge puts that line all the way down it their tank or If it really matters!!!

Can't speak specifically to the 12v's, but my 24v just dumps at the very top of the fuel tank, doesn't have a tube to the bottom or anything. I'd imagine it would be fine unless the OFV stays open a bit and allows fuel to drain back into the pump and back to the tank. But I'm just guessing here.

Well I did just order a OFV today,With all the threads that talk about leaking fuel lines I wondered if it could cause any problems.. I have thought of putting the return line lower just for #(%# and giggles , but want to put in the OFV first...

fuel is not only used to run your engine but it is to cool and lubricate the pump the exess fuel is ran to disperse more heat and if you put that warm fuel back into the pump (hence keep return and pickup lines apart) which warms it again and again.... not cool. haha not cool. i believe the return line is pressureized, not alot but enough to fight gravity to get to the top of your tank.
