How restrictive is the stock exhaust?

I have gone from a Edge EZ to a comp box and I can't keep my EGT'S below 1300 while towing. On level 5 with just the truck I peg the gauge. I have a cat back flow master 4" muffler and tail pipe. If I wen't to a turbo back 4" system would this help or is my turbo at it's max.

The exhaust isn't as restrictive as you would think. I know a guy running a stock exhaust on his 12v. He laid down 541hp & runs cool. The turbo is the restriction.

If you peg your pyro just driving your truck something is wrong. Level 5 can be a little much for towing depending on load but you should have no issues for normal driving. Are you able to build boost?

If its an auto with the HY35 turbo, not that uncommon. The 9cm exhaust housing is the restriction.

my stock exhaust was so restrictive that i had to cut it off infront of the catalitic converter in walmart parking lot just to get the truck to start and when she came alive it was like all hell broke loose and she could breathe again.

I tow on level 2 and drive on 3X3. It gets hot when the engine is at lower rpms (1500) but it makes good power down there. I think I need a turbo and new exhaust.

How come you have a CAT on a 2001. I don't have a CAT on mine, and it was my understanding it didn't come with one.

i don't think any 01s came with a cat. there is a resonator ahead of the muffler, but no cat converter.
to the OP-- low rpm is not the optimum place for your truck for egt cooling. the turbo needs to be spooled to flow more air. keep the revs up. towing at 2000-2500 works best for my towing needs and it will GENERALLY get better mileage up there, too. just my experience, and yes, the motor can run 2500 all day long.

I agree, above 2000 RPM is the area where the EGTs cool down. However, I get worse fuel mileage than when running at 1850 RPM.
