Reserve warning update....

Well this is an update on what happened.

I finally had made it to the 1/8 mark on the fuel gauge and I continued to put an extra 30 miles on the truck and the Reserve warning light never activated. I decided to pull into a station for fuel and found a Mobil station nearby. I new that when the dealer had sold me the truck they told me they had filled the tank for me, but I was sure they filled it until the nozzle had clicked off so I decided to do the same and check the numbers.
I managed to get 26.2 gal in before the safety shutoff started to click often. I figured this truck is acting the same as the 2001 I had just traded in, 8gal reserve. I decided to see how much more I could fill it if I added a small amount at a time and wait for the foam to settle per your sugestion, before adding more. I got it to fill the neck and it took 32.3 gal. I can safely say that my tank is FULL.
I know that with the 26.2 gal I had gotten 18.77 mpg, but I am unsure if this is true, but it should be close. I am happy.
After I filled the tank I checked the DTE, and it had registered 529 mi. I have driven 103miles since I filled it and the DTE reading is still at 529mi. My MPG (computer) is steadily rising and is now at 18.1mpg.
Re:Reserve warning update....

Like it was said before...the manual clearly states that the reserve is approximately 10% of the tank capacity....meaning about 3-1/2 gallons for the 34 tank. In other words...when the needle hits the E you should have about 3-4 gallons left to run on. Don't know why your idiot light didn't come on....but I don't suppose it matters whether it comes on or not.

And just so you know...I believe it's intended to be a "low fuel" light....not a "reserve warning" light. It's only purpose is to let you know that you are nearing a point where you will have to stop and get fuel. I believe the idea is that you will fill up before the needle hits E and your reserve will never be needed. I think the reserve was intended for emergency situations to help prevent drivers from running out of fuel.

Re:Reserve warning update....

Wouldnt want to have a lawsuit because the truck ran out of fuel when the gauge said empty.

Re:Reserve warning update....

Well...My dadgummed fuel guage is BUSTED!! > > It worked for the first few tanks...then, I started watching it to see when the binger (chime) comes on after reading these posts, low and behold I always had 7/8 or more in the tank, even after driving 400+ miles. When I refill, the tank goes back to F+ but then hangs at 7/8 >. I suspect the sender and or float mechanism in the tank, since the guage will return to -E when the key is turned to off. I won't get into trouble since I always use the odometer for safety and the guage as a back-up, but I'm still pretty bummed. The Old School Ram will be headed back to the dealer 1st thing Monday morning. I'm curious if any others have had this problem? ???
