Researching a replacement for the new intake lift pump.

I've read the new intank pumps don't have enough fuel pressure but Dodge says they have enough flow to compensate for lack of PSI. This doesn't make sense to me and makes me nervous about the new stock intank pump that will be installed in my truck under warranty.

Does anyone know of a good canidate to replace the stock intank pump?

It might be difficult to fit another pump in the Dodge intank assembly but I'm willing to try. A little bailing wire will do wonders.

I know Toyota intank pumps are reliable. The pump in my 85 4Runner has been going for at least 7 years. I've got several laying around from parts trucks that I could use.

The toy EFI pump puts out 38-42 psi. Is this too high? Will the VP bypass the extra? What GPH does the VP need? I'll run some gas through a toyota pump tonight to see what it flows.

One last thing. Pumps don't care whether they're pushing diesel or gasoline?

There will be a differance in flow between diesel and gas, I dont think you will get a fuel pump from a toyota (any model) to flow enough GPH.

Just buckle down and get a F.A.S.S., or a Holley Blue works really good from what I've heard and there less money by a long shot.

I know but I like to tinker with things and I can get my hands on almost unlimited toyota pumps for free. If people never tried anything new, we'd still be throwing spears to get dinner

Holley blues and blacks are intended to pump gasoline so any gas pump should work as long as it flows enough.

I searched and found this about flow, posted by fireram:

I have read about the new "flow gauge" method DC is using to test the new in tank retrofit, of providing at least 1.33 liters in 25 seconds to the Vp to be sufficient, even at 0 pressure.

You're probably right about flow out of a toy pump but I'll find out for sure tonight. If the little toy pump can pump 1.4Q in 25 seconds (yeah right) I'm good to go.

Thats funny, and true. However when it comes to a $1000.00 + VP I'll stick with what works and I know the Holley Blue/F.A.S.S. work. I also know from EXPERIANCE the Holley Black is a HUGE POS!!!

I say good luck, it would be great to know of other options for sure. Especially if we were out in BFE with a failed lift pump and knew of an alternitave if the DC lift pump wasnt available.

I would rather see ya shoot for a bit higher on the flow but I would tend to agree if you could get 1.4 qt in 25 sec it may work, but at what pressure? From what I have read the VP doesnt like much more than 25psi?

Let us know what you find.

I checked the flow on the toy pump and it barely flows a third of what's needed. Oh well...it was worth a shot

fwiw you can feed your VP w/ 120gph and never run out of fuel.

I'd rather pump a lot and bypass a lot, then not pump enough and have the VP run too hot.

HOHN, How much psi can a VP safely handle? All of the aftermarket intank pumps I've found have plenty of flow but are in the 45psi range. I heard the VP should have no more than 25?
