replacing a map sensor

Hey guys - is the map sensor on a 99, easy to replace for a somewhat mechanically inclined female? I hate going to a repair shop for something that I could do....also how do I go about clearing the error code....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Molly

Re:replacing a map sensor

I just replaced mine on my 99 Saturday. Took 5 minutes. Look at the back of
the motor. Almost directly under the insulation for the firewall. Driver side. Right
under a small bracket from the firewall. It is there. I forget the size deep well socket, but that and and extension will fit
perfectly. Just slide the wire coupler off, put the wratchet on, and it wont take much to loosen.
Its almost scary how easy it is to do.

As far as a code, well I didnt have any code. So someone else can help you there, but most of the time
when a code comes up, if you turn the ignition forward and back three times,
it will clear.

Oh this part is hard to see from the motor area. Look for the two pin or prong plug, and feel for it.
You will find it I promise.

Does anyone know what size it is? I want to clean mine, but I don't have a deep well that large.

Hired Gun-where did you order your map sensor? Seems like my local parts store is a little pricey ($110)...

It takes a 11/4" deep well, I paid $47.00 at local Cummins dealer. Part #3348747 it only takes a couple of minutes, but ensure you oil the o ring prior to putting it in. Tim

Drove two hours to the Cummins dealer and got the part there. Truck runs great again. Thanks for everyone's help!

Re:replacing a map sensor

I'm pretty sure it's 32mm on the socket. Do yourself a favor and when one of those fundraiser tool sales comes to your area pick up a set of 1/2 inch drive sets in metric and standard deepwell. Fire departments usually have these guys come around to help them raise money and for the price you will usually have the size you need for almost anything on your truck and you'll help your community. ;D Mike
