Replacing the 1-2 Band.
Alright i have scowered the site and hope i have not overlooked anything, but i cannot find an answer to my question.
-I have a 1993 1 ton 4x4. I recently put in a transgo tfod-diesel shift kit.
-When i did the kit i found the 1-2 band was toast and broken. The drum still is in pretty good shape and not scored. I was wondering if anyone knows if the band will slide around the drum and inner trans case so that i could replace just the band for know till i have time and money to rebuild it? I know its not the best fix but if i can slide the band out and a new one back in it would get me by a little longer.

Yeah that is what i am used to in auto trans but i heard a rumor that if you have the cast band liek in your pics you cannot slide it around but if you have the non-cast band its sheet metal kinda then there is enough clearence. I just want to hopefully have an afermative yes or no before i tear the thing part again or just baby it a few more months till i can build it badass.

I think you're thinking of the Low/REverse band.
You can buy a flexible band from any autopart store to replace that one, you just slide it up and around.
I've never heard of doing this with the band you're mentioning

I am talking about the band just like the one piuctured above and it is not cast like the one in the picture. I thought it was the 1-2 band? It is the big band and very thin sheetmetal with rolled ends for the strut and anchor to hold onto.

Thanks. I knew i could get a replacement one that slides in but the main concern is getting the old one out. I think because it is the non-cast band i can. I should jut throw the thing on the lift and give it a try.

There are a couple places that make a cheater band but I don't know the names of the companies. You have to cut the end off the old band with tin snips to get it out. Then the new one would be meant to go around the drum while the trans is still assembled. I heard that you can get a stock band in there also but it involves reshaping it with a hammer and that don't sound like a good idea to me lol.

OK cool thanks. When i had the trans apart for the kit it looked like it would come out if those ends were cut off. I turned the main screw up yesterday and put in a ground fuel pin so the transmission isn't to happy cant get past 1/2 throttle in 1st or 2nd. Probably wasn't smart to bump the power with a bad trans

I have a new band & it is ground down to fit just make sure you put it in the right way there is a little offset to the band where it hooks up to the adjuster & strut you dont have to reshape it with a hammer hope this helps
